Yoenis Cespedes Willing To Play First Base
6 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes brought up the idea of him playing some first base, according to a source familiar with the issue. As he rehabs from multiple injuries, Cespedes is taking fly balls in left field and ground balls at first base. He played some first base in Cuba and takes grounders there before games but has never played anything but the outfield in the majors. Cespedes sees a potential move to first base as a way to lessen the strain on his oft-injured legs. The source said they'd be surprised if Cespedes actually played first base, but general manager John Ricco said there is a chance it happens depending on how he looks at the position. Cespedes remains on the disabled list but could be back after the All-Star break. He should remain stashed in all leagues for his upside, but he's becoming more of a headache to own. Adding first base eligibility, although unlikely, would make him slightly more attractive.
