Yency Almonte Throwing Live Batting Practice
6 months agoChicago Cubs right-hander Yency Almonte (shoulder) is throwing live batting practice in Arizona on Friday. Almonte has been sidelined since early May due to a right-shoulder strain, and Friday's live BP session will be the first time that he has faced hitters in his rehab. After a couple live sessions, Almonte should be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Barring setbacks, he could be able to rejoin Chicago's major-league bullpen before the All-Star break in mid-July. The former 17th-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels in 2012 made 17 appearances out of the Cubs' bullpen earlier this year before landing on the shelf, posting a 3.45 ERA (3.34 FIP), the third save of his career, a 1.08 WHIP, 20 strikeouts and eight walks in 15 2/3 innings pitched.
