11 months agoCuban pitcher Yariel Rodriguez looks to be close to signing with the Toronto Blue Jays. There is no signing, and it wouldn't be surprising to see another team swoop in, but ESPN's Enrique Rojas has been told by sources that Toronto has taken the lead for Rodriguez's services. The 26-year-old pitched in Japan from 2020-2022. He pitched in Cuba for five years before going to Japan. The righty was mostly used as a starter until 2022, subsequently having his best season. It's not known if Rodriguez will be a starter in the majors or used as a middle-to-high-leverage reliever. He doesn't have astronomical strikeout numbers, K-ing 188 over 175 1/3 innings in Japan, so there are questions as to how effective he will be stateside, though there is plenty of intrigue.--Justin Raffone - RotoBaller
