Yankees Settle With Dellin Betances
6 years agoThe New York Yankees avoided salary arbitration on Friday with relief pitcher Dellin Betances by signing him to a one-year, $7.125 million deal. Betances is set to become a free agent after the 2019 season, but general manager Brian Cashman has expressed interest in entering extension talks at some point. The hard-throwing right-hander posted a 2.70 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 15.5 K/9 and four saves in 66 outings in 2018. He also lowered his walk rate from 6.6 BB/9 to 3.5, making his fantasy owners happy. Betances doesn't have a ton of fantasy value as the setup man to Aroldis Chapman, but his gaudy strikeout rate makes him worth owning in deeper leagues.
