Yankees Manager Not Concerned With Aroldis Chapman's Low Velocity
6 years agoNew York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman threw 12 fastballs in his appearance Thursday versus the Orioles and averaged only 95.3 mph on his heaters. Chapman averaged 99.1 mph a season ago and has flirted in the triple-digit range throughout his career, but this drop is worth noting. Manager Aaron Boone isn't concerned, stating that he'll "dial in" and "the velocity will follow." Chapman is entering his age-31 season, so it wouldn't be a shock if his velocity took a dip with age, but he should return to touching 100 mph on the radar gun. It may not be as often as we would like, but the flame-throwing lefty should return to form as he loosens up that cannon.
