Yankees Likely To Target "Inexpensive" Option At First Base
2 hours agoAccording to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Yankees are likely to target an inexpensive option at first base. This will likely make it very challenging for them to sign either Christian Walker or Pete Alonso. With the Yankees acquiring Cody Bellinger, and taking on most of the salary will make it difficult to stay under the luxury tax. In addition, earlier this offseason, the Yankees acquired Max Fried to a $218 million contract. Rosenthal noted that potential alternatives could be Carlos Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Bell, Paul Goldschmidt, or even a reunion with Anthony Rizzo. Santana's name has been near rumors all offseason and could provide a solid power bat to the bottom-half of the Yankee lineup. Last season he held a .238/.328/.420 line with 23 home runs a strong 10.9% walk rate.
