Yankees In "Extensive Talks" For Jack Flaherty
4 months agoThe New York Yankees are in "extensive talks" for Detroit Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty, according to a source. The Yankees would plan to trade left-hander Nestor Cortes if they acquire Flaherty, who was scratched from his scheduled start on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians so that he wouldn't get injured ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. The expectation around the league is that the veteran 28-year-old will be moved by Detroit before Tuesday's deadline, although manager A.J. Hinch said Flaherty is scheduled to take the mound on Thursday against the Kansas City Royals. Flaherty has had a resurgent 2024 campaign in Detroit, going 7-5 with a 2.95 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with a 133:19 K:BB in 106 2/3 innings over 18 starts. He's also sporting a career-high 32.1% strikeout rate and career-low 4.6% walk rate. A move to the Yankees would boost his fantasy value even further.
