Yankees Hope Carlos Rodon Can Throw Off Flat Ground Friday
2 years agoThe hope is that New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (back) can resume throwing off flat ground on Friday after having a cortisone injection in his back on Tuesday. If everything goes as planned, Rodon could be pitching in the majors six weeks after he resumes throwing, which would put him back on June 23. Meanwhile, his elbow is said to feel great. The issue has been Rodon's back, which has caused stiffness, prohibited a full range of motion and limited his velocity. It's not a chronic back issue, but fantasy managers may be worried about it affecting him the rest of the way when he finally makes his 2023 debut. The 30-year-old has shown in recent seasons that he can be a fantasy ace when healthy, but the problem is he hasn't been healthy so far in his first year in the Bronx.

Carlos Rodon Strikes Out Seven, Picks Up Win On Opening Day
2 weeks agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon pitched 5 1/3 innings on Thursday, allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven on the way to picking up his first win of the season in the 4-2 Opening Day victory over the Brewers. The southpaw, who had a forgettable 2023 season, is coming off a bounce-back campaign in 2024 in which he posted a 3.96 ERA (3.78 SIERA), 1.22 WHIP, and an 18.8 percent K-BB% with a 16-9 record. The 32-year-old is just a few seasons removed from 2021 and 2022, when he pitched well enough to earn Cy Young votes, so perhaps at full health, he can make some modest improvements over last season's ERA and WHIP numbers. The two-time All-Star lines up with the Diamondbacks at home next week for his next start.

Carlos Rodon Named Opening Day Starter
3 weeks agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon has been officially named the Opening Day starter against the Milwaukee Brewers. Well, this honor was going to be given to Gerrit Cole (elbow) before he suffered a season-ending injury. After that, Rodon and Max Fried became the favorites to take the ball on Opening Day. The Yankees have decided to give it to Rodon who is entering his third season in pinstripes. Last season, Rodon posted a 3.96 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 195/47 K/BB ratio across 32 starts with the Yankees. The Yankees are hopeful that the two-time All-Star can help pick up some of the slack left behind by the injury to Cole.

Carlos Rodon Stumbles In Game 2 Loss
5 months agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon stumbled in Game 2 of the World Series and was handed his second loss of the postseason. Rodon held the Dodgers scoreless in the opening frame but ran into trouble early in the second as Tommy Edman hit a lead-off solo shot. Then, in the third inning with two outs, outfielder Teoscar Hernandez would hit a two-run blast. The next batter, Freddie Freeman would also go on to take Rodon deep to extended the Dodger lead. The southpaw was able to log only three 1/3 innings of work with six total hits allowed and three runs. He struck out three and did not allow a free pass. During October, Rodon now sits with an underwhelming 5.60 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. DFS players should select Rodon with caution if he is able to make another start in the World Series.

Carlos Rodon Faces Tall Task In Game 2
5 months agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon has a tough matchup in Game 2 of the World Series. In his previous outing, Rodon lasted only four 2/3 innings and surrendered five hits, two earned runs, and one walk, while striking out six. During three starts this October, the southpaw sits with a modest 4.40 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. This evening, he will face the Los Angeles Dodgers who have hit left-handed pitching exceptionally well this season at a stellar .826 OPS mark. In addition, the Dodgers have only struck out 18.0% of the time facing southpaws which could limit Rodon's upside. Given his shaky performances during the postseason and tough matchup, it may be best to fade Rodon in DFS formats.
