Yankees Considered A "Main Player" For J.A. Happ
6 years agoWith the start of July and the trade deadline looming, rumors swirling about high-profile targets continue to surface. One such target is Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher J.A. Happ, and one such rumor is that the New York Yankees have been eyeing him for some time. According to a new update from MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman, the Yankees are a "main player" for Happ, and they consider him either near or at the very top of their list of trade targets. Happ and the Yankees on paper make a lot of sense. The 35-year-old veteran would slide right into the rotation as a left-handed starter and considering his age, the Yankees would likely be able to acquire him without parting with too many of their prized prospects. He will also be a free agent after the 2018 season. On the year, Happ is 10-4 with 110 strikeouts on a weak Blue Jays team. Happ owners would probably love this potential trade, as he would move to a contender that would provide him with great run support and a spectacular bullpen to back him up.
