Yankees Agree With Reliever Darren O'Day
4 years agoThe New York Yankees agreed to a deal with free-agent relief pitcher Darren O'Day on Wednesday, according to sources. O'Day is guaranteed to make $2.5 million for one season, and the contract includes a dual option, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman. The Braves and Phillies were the runners-up for O'Day. The 38-year-old sidearmer was excellent for Atlanta in the shortened 2020 season, posting a 1.10 ERA and 0.80 WHIP in 19 appearances. An All-Star in 2015 with the Orioles, O'Day has a 3.43 career ERA and a 1.02 WHIP while striking out 9.4 hitters per nine innings and recording 21 saves over 13 big-league seasons. He'll provide the Bombers with some veteran relief depth, but he won't be on the fantasy radar.
