2 years agoSaturday night's co-main event of UFC 284 will feature a pair of featherweights clashing for the division's vacant title. Yair Rodriguez (14-3) is now one step away from becoming another Mexican UFC champion when he faces off against Josh Emmett. Rodriguez earned this shot after finishing Brian Ortega in the first round of their matchup last July. A dangerous striker, six of Rodriguez's 14 career wins have come by knockout/TKO, with an additional six coming by decision. DraftKings sees him as the favorite to take the crown with a salary of $8,500. Throughout his UFC career (12 bouts), he averages 73.2 fantasy points per contest. Emmett is on a five-fight winning streak, with the last three coming by decision.--Matt Bricker

1 year agoYair Rodriguez (18-4 and one No Contest) is set to rematch Brian Ortega in a five-round co-main event fight at UFC Mexico City on Saturday. Rodriguez scored a first-round stoppage over Ortega back in July 2022, in a fight the American suffered a shoulder injury. Rodriguez enters the rematch as the favorite as DraftKings has him at a salary of $8,500. In his UFC career, he's averaging 71.42 fantasy points per fight and has finished five of his 10 wins in the promotion. A win over Ortega could earn Rodriguez a title shot.--Cole Shelton

2 years agoUnable to change his interim status to undisputed, Yair Rodriguez suffered a third-round TKO loss to champion Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 290 on Saturday. Rodriguez was only able to land 40 significant strikes (57 total strikes) while absorbing 149 total strikes in  14:19 of action. Rodriguez still has the potential to score big for fantasy managers, but he just ran into a rare-breed champion in Volkanovski.--Matt Bricker

2 years agoInterim featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez will face off with champion Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 290 on Saturday to unify his titles and be declared the undisputed king of the division. Rodriguez earned the interim title against Josh Emmett in February after Volkanovski took time away from the division to challenge for the lightweight championship. DraftKings sees Rodriguez as a huge underdog with a salary of $7,000. He also averages 75.4 fantasy points per contest. A dangerous striker, Rodriguez will look to try and end this one early. The decision will probably not go his way if he goes all five rounds with a fighter like Volkanovski.--Matt Bricker

2 years agoEarning Mexico another UFC championship, Yair Rodriguez locked in a second-round submission win over Josh Emmett on Saturday to secure the vacant featherweight title. In 9:19 of action, Rodriguez collected 62 significant strikes (98 total strikes) compared to that of Emmett's 22 significant strikes (35 total strikes). This was pure vintage Rodriguez for fight fans, and his win sets him up nicely for a future matchup against Alexander Volkanovski, who still looks to be the man at featherweight.--Matt Bricker
