Xander Bogaerts To Take Batting Practice Soon
4 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is expected to start taking batting practice this week. Bogaerts was taking swings off a tee after injuring his right shoulder throwing, with the team hoping to get him into the lineup for spring action as a designated hitter later this coming week. The 28-year-old shortstop slashed .300/.364/.502 with 11 homers and eight stolen bases in 56 games during the shortened 2020 season. His .329 BABIP was right in line with his career .332 average, suggesting that another season of high-average hitting could be in the cards for Bogaerts. The Red Sox still feel confident that Bogaerts will be ready for Opening Day- he should still be among the top shortstops selected in drafts as a good source of average and speed with some pop.
