Wilyer Abreu On The Bench Against Left-Hander
Wilyer Abreu is starting the game on the bench on Friday in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees with left-hander Nestor Cortes on the mound. With Abreu getting a day off, Rob Refsnyder will draw into right field and will bat second for the BoSox against Cortes in the series opener. Refsnyder could be a popular DFS sleeper addition to lineups, as he's hit .600 with a 1.400 OPS in his career, albeit in only 10 at-bats, against Cortes. Abreu has been solid in his second year in the big leagues for Boston but is batting just .167 (5-for-30) with none of his six home runs on the year against same-handed pitchers. Refsnyder has minimal power (three homers on the year) but has gone 20-for-61 (.328) with two of his three dingers against lefties in 2024.

Wilyer Abreu Launches Two Home Runs
Wilyer Abreu tallied three extra-base hits in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers. He hit two home runs and one double while collecting two runs and three RBI. He is starting to heat back up at the plate again, as he now has three home runs in his past three games. The 25-year-old is slashing an excellent .294/.400/.580 on the season with nine home runs, 25 RBI, 22 runs, and four stolen bases. This is continuing to look like a true breakout season for the youngster, and he is even valuable in points leagues thanks to his 15.0% walk rate.

Wilyer Abreu Collects Three Hits On Sunday
Wilyer Abreu broke out of his mini slump at the plate during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins. Abreu was 0-for-11 over his last three games coming into Sunday's contest. He was able to turn it around at the plate during this game. He went 3-for-4 at the plate which includes a solo home run off right-hander Griffin Jax in the eighth inning. Abreu has been one of the biggest surprises this season and he should be rostered in most fantasy formats going forward. If he's available, fantasy managers better make sure to scoop him up before it's too late.

Wilyer Abreu Sitting Versus Southpaw
Wilyer Abreu (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. This appears to be a rest day for Abreu who smacked a three-run home run during Saturday's contest. He has been off to an excellent start to the season, so this is a well-deserved rest day for Abreu. In his absence, Rob Refsnyder will cover right field and bat fifth versus left-hander Logan Allen. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Abreu on the bench.

Wilyer Abreu Cools After Hot Start
Wilyer Abreu went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his team's 4-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. Aside from a 3-for-4 effort on Tuesday, Abreu has been scuffling at the plate a bit. After a blistering start to the season in which he hit .636 over four appearances in March, he's gone just 16-for-74 (.216). The Venezuela native is still making quality contact and drawing walks at the highest rate of his career (15.8%), so he should be able to break out of his rut soon. However, it's worth noting that he's notched only six free passes in 74 at-bats after recording five over his first 11. Abreu has always struggled hitting left-handed pitching, and that's continued in 2025 (1-for-9).
