Wilyer Abreu On The Bench Against Left-Hander
5 months agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu is starting the game on the bench on Friday in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees with left-hander Nestor Cortes on the mound. With Abreu getting a day off, Rob Refsnyder will draw into right field and will bat second for the BoSox against Cortes in the series opener. Refsnyder could be a popular DFS sleeper addition to lineups, as he's hit .600 with a 1.400 OPS in his career, albeit in only 10 at-bats, against Cortes. Abreu has been solid in his second year in the big leagues for Boston but is batting just .167 (5-for-30) with none of his six home runs on the year against same-handed pitchers. Refsnyder has minimal power (three homers on the year) but has gone 20-for-61 (.328) with two of his three dingers against lefties in 2024.
