Wilmer Font Opens Eyes In Extra-Inning Loss
7 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers reliever Wilmer Font made a name for himself in an unexpected way on Monday. Called upon to pitch multiple innings after closer Kenley Jansen blew the save and sent the game into extra innings, Font threw 4 1/3 innings, striking out four batters while giving up two runs (including the game-winner) on five hits and walking only one batter. Font was a starter for all of 2017 in Triple-A where he was the Pacific Coast League's Most Valuable Pitcher. He was terrible once called up to the bullpen in September, but the upside is clearly there. If starter Hyun-Jin Ryu continues to struggle, the Dodgers may give his rotation spot to Font. He's worth monitoring for that very reason.
