William Contreras Not Playing On Monday
William Contreras (head) is not in the starting lineup on Monday versus the hosting Los Angeles Angels. Contreras collided with Cincinnati Reds outfielder Stuart Fairchild in a play at home plate on Sunday in the 5-4 win and was checked for a concussion following the game. It's unclear if Contreras is actually dealing with a concussion, but he won't play in Monday's series opener in Anaheim and could be a candidate to land on the seven-day concussion list if he doesn't improve in the next couple of days. When healthy, the 26-year-old backstop is a must-start at the shallow catcher position in fantasy, as he's currently slashing .305/.367/.467 with an .834 OPS, nine home runs, 48 RBI and five stolen bases in 285 at-bats. Gary Sanchez is catching and batting eighth against Angels right-hander Jose Soriano on Monday and will see more playing time if Contreras misses more time. UPDATE: Contreras "is going to be fine," according to manager Pat Murphy, and he's available to pinch hit or enter the game as a defensive replacement on Monday.
