William Byron in Big Hole at Indy Road Course Due to Penalty
1 year agoWhen the No. 24 Chevrolet went through pre-race inspection at the Indy Road Course, NASCAR didn't like what it saw the first time through. Or the second time. Or the third time. Byron's car finally passed inspection on the fourth time, but he will now have to deal with the consequences. The biggest penalties for this are that Byron was not allowed to qualify on Saturday and will have to start from the rear for Sunday's Verizon 200 at The Brickyard. Additionally, he will have to come down pit road for a pass-through penalty once the race starts. While these are definitely disadvantages, because of the size of the road course tracks, this doesn't ruin Byron's day entirely. An early caution will help him catch back up to the pack and be able to run his race. Byron was able to practice on Saturday and he ended up 9th-fastest with a lap time of 89.547 seconds.
