1 year agoIf you didn't think that William Byron was a serious Championship contender this season, think again. After a dominating performance at Watkins Glen on Sunday afternoon, William Byron now leads the Cup Series with five victories this year--two more than any other driver on the circuit. Byron has also amassed eight Stage wins through the first 25 races of the season. The No. 24 Chevrolet was fast all weekend long at Watkins Glen, and the driver ran a near-perfect race on Sunday. Byron had the fastest Green Flag Speed of all competitors in this race, and had an Average Running Position of 1.34 over the 90-lap event. Byron also added six Playoffs points to his arsenal that he has earned this year by winning the race as well as a Stage on Sunday afternoon. Those will be very valuable once the NASCAR postseason starts.--Jordan McAbee
