What Should You Do With Martin Truex Jr. In DFS This Weekend At Talladega?
7 months agoMartin Truex Jr., who currently sits second in the NASCAR playoff standings, will start sixth in Sunday's Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Heading into a weekend with so much uncertainty given the unpredictable nature of superspeedway racing, Truex is perhaps the biggest question mark on the slate. Although we don't want to ignore that his 52.16 average score on DraftKings is the highest of any driver in the nine regular season races this season, we also have to recognize that the former Cup Series champion struggles at this track. In 38 starts at Talladega, the Joe Gibbs Racing star has never won, has just three top-fives, more DNFs (13) than top-10s (nine), and an average finish of 21.3. Even his recent starts at this track have been underwhelming. While he finished fifth in the first race in the Next Gen car at this track, his three most recent visits to eastern Alabama have resulted in an average finish of 23.6 and an average DraftKings score of 13.31 points. Even if he triples this score on Sunday, he will still be below the expected value on his $8,200 DraftKings salary. Although you can never count a driver the caliber of MTJ out of any race, his starting position, combined with his lackluster track history, suggests that you should limit your exposure to the No. 19 in DFS this weekend.
