Wei-Yin Chen Will Start Season In Bullpen
6 years agoMiami Marlins starter Wei-Yin Chen will start the 2019 season as a reliever, manager Don Mattingly announced on Sunday. The move is not entirely surprising as opponents have batted Chen around this spring. In 16 1/3 innings, batters have scored 17 runs off 21 hits, three of which were homers. He's only struck out eight batters while walking three. It's a small sample, to be sure, but Chen himself has said he isn't 100 percent. His injury history, coupled with how well Caleb Smith, Trevor Richards and Pablo Lopez have been pitching, makes this an easy call for the team. Those last three are worth grabbing in the late rounds of mixed leagues since they've shown previous flashes of brilliance and may surprise people this year. Chen can be safely ignored in most leagues.
