Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Will Pass On Home Run Derby
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said on Wednesday that he will sit out of the 2021 Home Run Derby after falling one home run shy in the Derby in 2019. Guerrero is tied for the major league lead with 23 home runs this year, but he told reporters he wants to "take care of myself physically and mentally" in order to stay fresh for the second half of the season. After shedding weight in the offseason, the 22-year-old is having a breakout season at the plate in his third year in the big leagues, hitting .340/.441/.668 with a 1.109 OPS, 23 home runs, 54 runs scored, 60 RBI and even two stolen bases in 304 plate appearances. His fantasy managers won't be mad about him skipping the Derby. Continue to start him each and every day during his breakout campaign.
