Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Hits First Spring Homer
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. slugged a three-run homer and went 3-for-3 in Thursday's 10-6 win over the Detroit Tigers. He's now 5-for-10 with a BB-K of 3-1 this spring. Guerrero Jr., who turns 22 in a few days, came into camp after losing more than 40 pounds since last year and admitting that he was not in ideal shape the previous few years. Last year, his 92.5 mph exit velocity and 51% hard-hit rate were both premium results but he hit too many balls on the ground. Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays are hoping the improved conditioning will help him maintain better consistency with his swing path and lead to more hard-hit balls in the air.
