Vince Velasquez Signed By Padres, Could Start This Weekend
3 years agoThe San Diego Padres signed starting pitcher Vince Velasquez to a minor league contract on Wednesday. According to multiple sources, the Padres are planning to add Velasquez to the team's active 28-man roster and he will start a game during this weekend's series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 29-year-old veteran was released by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. He was in the midst of rehabbing a finger injury when he was cut. Velasquez appeared in 21 games for the Phillies this year and made 17 starts, going 3-6 with a 5.95 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. We'll see if the Padres can help turn his season around, but fantasy managers should steer clear for now.
