7 years agoAfter a promising spring training, Vince Velasquez’s regular season began in a manner all too familiar. The pitcher with obvious talent but consistent struggles was rocked tonight in Atlanta en route to a 15-2 defeat. Taking the mound with a two-run lead from the start, Velasquez allowed seven runs within the first three innings, getting the hook after 2 2/3 frames. He also allowed nine hits, but was let down by catcher Jorge Alfaro’s error in the third. This was a nightmare beginning for the 25-year-old, who’s facing a pivotal season in his young career.--RDelgado
