Victor Mesa Jr. Optioned To Triple-A Jacksonville
2 mins agoMiami Marlins outfield prospect Victor Mesa Jr. (hamstring) was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday. The 23-year-old was in camp competing for a roster spot this spring when he suffered a strained right hamstring during drills on Feb. 21, never even getting a chance to appear in a Grapefruit League game. The left-handed hitter was trying to get back on track after a back injury ended his 2024 season in July. The Marlins' 27th-ranked prospect began the Triple-A season hot last year before fading over his final 13 games prior to the injury, finishing with a .255-13-51-48-5 line. The Cuban outfielder likely would have made his MLB debut last year if not for the injury, and this new injury is yet another setback, but look for him to get a call-up to the big leagues at some point this season, bringing with him a little bit of pop along with a little bit of speed, which could make for an intriguing waiver add in deeper and NL-only leagues whenever that happens.
