6 years agoThe Vancouver Canucks have taken University of Michigan defender Quinn Hughes with the seventh overall pick on Friday night. One of the top-ranked defenders in the draft, Hughes dominated in his freshman year, posting five goals and 29 points in 37 games. Somewhat undersized at 5-foot-11, Hughes believes he's ready to compete at the NHL level right now, and the Canucks need for firepower on the blue line make that a strong possibility. Even at seventh overall, Hughes was a huge steal for the Canucks, as some consider him the best defender in this year's class not named Dahlin. He's expected to become one of the NHL's impact players on defense somewhere between Torey Krug and Kris Letang.--Barry Miles
