Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has signed a long-term extension with the team, agreeing to a five-year, $23.75 million deal. The Finnish netminder was a restricted free agent and was set for salary arbitration in a couple of weeks' time. Luukkonen is coming off a stellar campaign, which saw him go 27-22-4 in 51 starts. The Sabres once again missed the playoffs and continued to leak goals, but Luukkonen finished with a solid 2.57 goals-against average and had five shutouts with a .910 save percentage. Only four goaltenders in the league shut out the opposition more times than Luukkonen in 2023-24. The 25-year-old has set himself a pretty high bar for the upcoming campaign, but the contract extension suggests that the team fully believes that Luukkonen can deliver the goods.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
