4 years agoMilwaukee Brewers outfielder Tyrone Taylor went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and a walk in Friday's 7-1 win over the White Sox. Taylor put Milwaukee comfortably ahead and capped off a six-run seventh inning with his first career slam. The 27-year-old is slashing .240/.331/.440 with eight homers, 30 RBI, and 20 runs scored through 172 plate appearances. He has mostly been limited to a bench role, starting just three of the last eight games, likely due to Milwaukee facing seven right-handed starters in that span. Taylor simply does not get consistent at-bats currently to be a daily fantasy asset.--James Stokke

2 weeks agoNew York Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor is making a second straight start in center field and is batting seventh on Friday against Houston Astros right-hander Hunter Brown at Daikin Park in Houston. In the early going, manager Carlos Mendoza has favored Taylor in center over Jose Siri. In the Opening Day loss to the Astros on Thursday, Taylor went 1-for-4 with a single. While the 31-year-old veteran has the advantage over Siri so far in the early going, both he and Siri are expected to split reps pretty evenly in center field over the course of the season. In his first year in the Big Apple last year, Taylor slashed .248/.299/.401 with a career-low .701 OPS, seven home runs, 35 RBI, 11 runs scored and 47 runs scored in a career-high 130 games played. He can offer modest speed and power numbers in a part-time role for those in NL-only formats. Taylor has never faced Brown in his MLB career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 months agoNew York Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor (elbow, hernia) was seen taking part in the team's full-squad spring training workout on Wednesday. Taylor looks fully healthy in camp after having multiple surgeries late last year -- one to remove a loose body in his right elbow and the other being an umbilical hernia repair. Superstar Juan Soto will be the team's everyday right fielder in 2025, but the 31-year-old Taylor could see plenty of playing time in center field now that Harrison Bader is in Minnesota. However, he'll be competing this spring with veteran Starling Marte and Jose Siri in center. Taylor made 76 starts for the Mets last year as their fourth outfielder and hit .248/.299/.401 with seven homers, 35 RBI and a career-high 11 stolen bases. At best, he's likely ticketed for a platoon role, which will limit his fantasy value to deep-mixed and NL-only leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

5 months agoNew York Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor (hernia) underwent an umbilical hernia surgery on Oct. 30 with Dr. Venkata Evani in Phoenix, Ariz., and also had surgery to have a loose body removed from his right elbow on Thursday with Dr. James Carr in New York. Taylor is expected to miss around two months after the two surgeries. While Taylor should be ready for the start of spring training in February, he'll spend much of his offseason rehabbing two different injuries. Depending on what the Mets do in the offseason on the trade and free-agent markets, the 30-year-old veteran could be in line to start in center field for the team to open the 2025 season. The former second-rounder by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2012 hit .248/.299/.401 with a career-worst .701 OPS, seven homers, 35 RBI, 11 steals and 47 runs in 130 regular-season games in his first year with the Mets in 2024.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

9 months agoNew York Mets outfielders Harrison Bader and Tyrone Taylor will both head to the bench for the start of Sunday's contest against the hosting Pittsburgh Pirates. With both Bader and Taylor out, Jeff McNeil will start in left field and bat eighth, while DJ Stewart will draw the start in right field and hit sixth against Pirates right-hander Luis L. Ortiz. After returning from a head injury he suffered early in the week, Bader went 1-for-6 with a double and RBI in the first two games of the series in Pittsburgh. Taylor, 30, has been the team's regular right fielder since Starling Marte (knee) went on the injured list. He's hit just .162 in 10 games without Marte, although he's added three home runs and two doubles. Stewart is hitting just .176 on the year with five home runs, while McNeil hasn't been much better with a .216 average (59-for-273) with five homers, 20 RBI and four stolen bases.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
