Tyler Wells Picks Up Crucial Save
1 year agoBaltimore Orioles right-handed pitcher Tyler Wells picked up his first save of the season on Thursday, finishing off a 2-0 shutout victory over the Boston Red Sox. Wells pitched a perfect frame without striking out a batter. The 29-year-old had been used as a starter through July, but was shut down after innings concerns arose while he appeared to be fading. He returned in late September as a reliever and appears to have the trust of manager Brandon Hyde, who used Wells to close out their division-clinching game tonight. He will likely hold a high-leverage relief role in the playoffs but should return to his starting job next year, giving him some fantasy value later in drafts.
