Oakland A's third baseman Tyler Nevin was locked in during Monday's 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Nevin went 2-for-3 with one run, one homer, two RBI, and one strikeout. The 26-year-old continues to provide production after a slow start to the season. He's now hitting .301 (22-for-73) with two doubles, three homers, eight runs, eight RBI with five walks and 16 strikeouts through 23 games. At best, Nevin is an option in AL-only leagues, but he still has more to prove for those considering him off the waiver wire in deep-mixed leagues, especially since he plays for one of the worst teams in baseball.--Shaun Evans - RotoBaller

Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Nevin and catcher Shea Langeliers are both getting a day off on Thursday in Houston against the Astros. Tyler Soderstrom will start at first base and bat cleanup, while Kyle McCann is doing the catching and will bat fifth against Astros right-hander Cristian Javier. Nevin had a nice little run in April but has gone 3-for-39 so far in the month of May, which has given Soderstrom more chances at first base. Soderstrom, meanwhile, has taken advantage by going 6-for-19 with a homer and three RBI in just six games played. This will be a regular off day for the 26-year-old Langeliers in a matinee affair. Langeliers has been much better in May, going 13-for-42 (.310) with three home runs and 11 RBI in 12 games to raise his season slash line to .218/.272/.496. McCann will be a DFS sleeper at catcher while he carries a .351 average (13-for-37) on the year with three home runs and eight RBI in just 15 games played.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Oakland Athletics corner infielder/outfielder Tyler Nevin and catcher Shea Langeliers are both starting on the bench on Tuesday against the visiting Texas Rangers. Nevin will head to the bench after going hitless in his last 14 at-bats. Despite his recent slump, the 26-year-old is still slashing a solid .277/.349/.426 on the year with four home runs, 10 RBI, a steal and 11 runs scored in 94 at-bats for the A's. Langeliers will get the day off in a day game after a night game. He's hitting just .179 (19-for-106) on the year but has shown nice power with seven homers and 16 RBI in the early going. Brett Harris is starting at third base and batting ninth, while Kyle McCann is doing the catching and hitting sixth for the A's on Tuesday against Rangers right-hander Jose Urena.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder Tyler Nevin on Monday from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations. Nevin made his major-league debut with the Orioles in 2021 and also played for them in 2022, hitting a combined .205 (35-for-171) with three home runs and 19 RBI in 64 games played. The 26-year-old corner infielder went 19-for-95 (.200) with two home runs, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored in 41 games for the Detroit Tigers in 2023. Nevin was more productive at Triple-A Toledo with a .326/.400/.543 slash line, 15 home runs and 58 RBI in 87 games. He'll return to the Orioles organization before the 2024 campaign, but Nevin probably had a much better shot at making an impact at the major-league level in Detroit.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Detroit Tigers have claimed right-hander Devin Sweet off waivers from the San Francisco Giants and subsequently designated infielder Tyler Nevin for assignment. Sweet, 27, made his big-league debut with the Mariners and A's in the 2023 season, allowing 10 earned runs on 10 hits and six walks against six strikeouts across just 8 2/3 frames between the two clubs. He spent the bulk of the season at Double-A within the Mariners organization, tossing a stealth 1.54 ERA alongside a massive 28.7% K-BB% in 27 relief outings. Nevin, 26, appeared in 41 games with the Tigers last season but hit just .200 with two home runs and a .622 OPS across 111 plate appearances. He's a lifetime .203 hitter with five homers and a .611 OPS across 313 big-league plate appearances between the Tigers and Baltimore Orioles.--Brenton Kemp
