Tyler Mahle To Face Hitters Wednesday
6 months agoTexas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (elbow) will face live hitters on Wednesday, according to manager Bruce Bochy. It will be the first of four live batting practice sessions for Mahle as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery that he had on May 22 of last year. The 29-year-old is making good progress but still has a ways to go and will surely need a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment before he becomes a realistic option for Texas' starting rotation after the All-Star break in mid-July. When he gets closer to a return to the big leagues, Mahle will be worth watching as a waiver-wire addition in at least deep-mixed fantasy leagues after he had a 3.16 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 28 K's and five walks in his first five starts last year for the Minnesota Twins. Mahle has a career 4.30 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 677 K's in 635 2/3 career innings in the big leagues.
