Tyler Austin Could Start Opening Day
7 years agoNew York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said today that if Greg Bird is placed on the DL to begin the season, Tyler Austin would likely get the start at first base on Opening Day. Bird is currently dealing with a sore foot that will require him to undergo an MRI and a CT scan. Considering his injury history on the right foot, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him land on the disabled list. Austin, meanwhile, got plenty of looks at first base last year in Bird’s absence before succumbing to injury himself. He was originally scheduled to report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 26-year-old hit .238 with four home runs and six RBI this spring with the big league club.
