Ty Montgomery Still Looking For More Work
Ty Montgomery has been a non-factor in the offense through two weeks. Montgomery became a hot name early last week when starter Le'Veon Bell was listed as questionable with a shoulder injury, but Bell wound up playing Monday and out-touched Montgomery 31-6. Through two weeks, Montgomery has only five carries and three catches and has played less than 30 snaps so far this season. It's possible Montgomery earns more work as the season moves on if the Jets try and rest Bell, but for fantasy purposes, Montgomery has almost no value except as a handcuff to Bell.

Ty Montgomery Unlikely To Play Thursday
Ty Montgomery (leg) was among those that didn't take part in pregame warmups on Thursday, making it unlikely that he'll suit up for the team's preseason opener against the Houston Texans. Montgomery has been losing valuable repetitions in training camp as he looks to lock up a complementary pass-catching role this year behind Rhamondre Stevenson. As long as Montgomery continues to miss time, Pierre Strong Jr., Kevin Harris and J.J. Taylor will see more opportunities to impress the coaching staff in the preseason. The 30-year-old played just 19 snaps in the season opener last year before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. At best, the veteran back will be a waiver-wire pickup in 2023 in deep PPR formats.

Ty Montgomery Nursing Injury At Camp
Ty Montgomery (undisclosed) had four catches in the team's first training camp practice this week, but he suffered an undisclosed lower-body injury during practice on Thursday and left early. The 30-year-old veteran's injury should be monitored closely, and we'll pass along any new information once it comes out. He played in just one game with the Patriots in 2022 due to a shoulder injury, but he figures to have a bigger role in the passing attack this year if he's healthy. Once he's able to get back onto the field, hopefully sooner than later, Montgomery will be competing with Pierre Strong Jr. and Kevin Harris for a complementary role behind early-down back Rhamondre Stevenson.

Ty Montgomery Listed As Wide Receiver On Patriots Roster
Ty Montgomery was listed as a running back/wide receiver hybrid on the team's official roster in the spring, but he is listed as just a wideout during training camp. This could mean any speculation of him being used as a third-down back could be put to rest. If so, Rhamondre Stevenson should retain plenty of his receiving work from 2022. However, Pierre Strong Jr. was a strong pass-catcher in college, so he could see a role in passing situations, too. Either way, if Montgomery doesn't get any touches from the backfield, he'll likely be off the fantasy radar altogether in 2023.

Ty Montgomery Competing For Backup Role
Ty Montgomery, who emerged as a replacement for receiving back James White in the team's backfield last summer, will be competing for a depth role behind Rhamondre Stevenson with Pierre Strong Jr. and Kevin Harris this summer. Montgomery missed the final 16 games of his first season in New England due to injuries, but he's a candidate to spell Stevenson in the passing game in 2023. "I think he has a great chance to the be the third-down back and take some of the load off Rhamondre [Stevenson], so [Rhamondre] can be fresh when he we really need him on first and second down carrying the ball as the featured guy," said RBs coach Ivan Fears. The 30-year-old has versatility that Bill Belichick likes, but Montgomery probably won't see enough touches to be worth drafting, outside of deep PPR setups.
