Ty Gibbs Solidifies Playoff Chances With Top-Five Finish At Michigan
3 months agoTy Gibbs isn't locked into the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs yet, but he put himself in an even better position with a strong run at Michigan International Speedway this past weekend. Despite starting back in 19th-place, Gibbs was able to find his way to the front throughout the race and came home with a third-place finish when the checkered flag waved. He added a third-place finish in the second Stage as well, earning 42 points on the day. He now has a 39-point advantage on the playoff cutoff line with two races remaining in the regular season. The finish was Gibbs' sixth top-five result in 2024 and ended his streak of three straight finishes outside of the top 20. Regarding the cushion in the points, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver stated, "Definitely nice, but [Daytona] is a crapshoot, so I don't really know what's going to happen," Gibbs added. "Hopefully, we can have a good, clean Daytona."
