6 years agoThe San Diego Padres have called up third baseman Ty France for Wednesday’s showdown against the Seattle Mariners. Utility player Jose Pirela will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained oblique. The 24-year-old France was last week’s PCL Player of the Week and is slashing a robust .423/.500/.885 with nine homers and 52 runs-plus-RBI in 92 plate appearances with the El Paso Chihuahuas. France has been getting reps at second base and while he’s not in the lineup on Wednesday, it’s probable he’ll platoon with second baseman Ian Kinsler at the keystone. With Kinsler struggling (.472 OPS) and infielder Luis Urias recently demoted, it appears France will get a legitimate shot to become a regular starter with the Friars.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
