Twins To Be Mindful Of Michael Pineda's Innings
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starter Michael Pineda said he's feeling healthy and strong ahead of spring training, though that won't stop the team from being mindful of his innings in 2021. Pineda hasn't pitched a full season since 2016, as Tommy John surgery cost him much of his 2017 and all of his 2018 campaign. It's admittedly a small sample size, but the 32-year old was very good for Minnesota in five starts last season, going 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched while posting a 38.2 percent groundball rate, 22.5 strikeout rate, and 23.2 hard-hit percentage, all of which would have placed among the top-35 starters last season. Expecting more than 150 innings out of Pineda is unrealistic, but he can be a good source of strikeouts and wins at his late-round ADP of 227.
