Twins Sign Matt Shoemaker To One-Year Deal
4 years agoThe Minnesota Twins signed free-agent starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker to a one-year deal on Monday. The deal is worth $2 million and includes $250,000 in performance bonuses for the 34-year-old hurler, who has dealt with various injuries in his career. He's only made 18 starts since the end of 2017 due to forearm, knee, shoulder, and head ailments, though he's been a solid back-end starter when healthy, as evidenced by his career 3.86 ERA across 602.1 innings pitched. Shoemaker will compete with Randy Dobnak for the fifth spot in Minnesota's rotation- and will have a good shot at rounding out the Twins' rotation if he's truly healthy and has a good spring.
