Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that first baseman
Triston Casas (knee) suffered a significant knee injury in Friday's series opener against the visiting Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park and is currently at the hospital. The skipper said the team will know more on Saturday, but it's a safe bet that Casas will be out for a while. It's not a surprise after the 25-year-old crumbled to the ground after landing awkwardly on first base while running out a groundout. Based on the way the injury looked, a torn ligament in his knee is a possibility, but we'll have a better idea of how long Casas might be sidelined on Saturday. With Casas likely out for an extended period of time,
Romy Gonzalez, who replaced Casas at first on Friday, is in line to see regular playing time for the BoSox. In addition to this serious injury, Casas came into Friday's action hitting just .184/.279/.306 with three homers and 11 RBI.

Triston Casas (knee) was removed early during Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers and was placed on a stretcher after a scary-looking injury. Casas appeared to have suffered a knee injury while trying to make it to first base. This looked like an ugly injury, and Casas couldn't even get off the field under his own power. The expectation is that the Red Sox will have Casas undergo further testing. However, fantasy managers should prepare for Casas to miss significant time because of this injury.
Romy Gonzalez took over at first base and might see more time over there if Casas heads to the injured list, which seems likely based on how the injury looked on Friday night.

After slumping to open the 2025 regular season, Boston Red Sox first baseman
Triston Casas worked with hitting coach Pete Fatse this week to move the positioning of his hands further away from his body. The early results have been encouraging after Casas hit a three-run home run for the second straight day in Wednesday's loss to the Seattle Mariners. In his first 23 games, the 25-year-old left-handed slugger had a 39 wRC+ while batting .171 with a .570 OPS, which was the worst month of his career. As a result, manager Alex Cora recently moved him down from his customary fourth spot in the batting order. Both of his homers the last two days were just over 105 mph off the bat, and fantasy managers will be hoping Casas' adjustment with his stance will continue to mean more production after a slow start. Now he just needs to be moved back up the batting order.

Triston Casas blasted a three-run home run and drew one walk in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Mariners. This was his second game in a row with a home run, and the slugger is finally showing signs of life after a very slow start to the season. He's batting just .171 on the year with three home runs, 10 RBI, and five runs through 23 games. Even his usually stellar walk rate is down to a middling 8.8%, with truly nothing going right for him over the first few weeks. He seems to be snapping out of it recently though, dating back to Saturday when he delivered a walk-off hit. It's too early to give up on Casas in fantasy, as he still possesses massive power upside.
