Blue Jays Select Trey Yesavage At No.20
7 months agoThe Toronto Blue Jays selected right-handed pitcher Trey Yesavage from East Carolina with the 20th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. Yesavage was considered the number 11 best prospect on MLB.com entering the draft, so the Blue Jays may have gotten a steal with their first-round selection. Yesavage first operated exclusively out of the bullpen and shifted to a starter towards the end of his sophomore campaign. This past season, in his third year, he finished near the top among all pitching ratios in all Division I schools. His 2.02 ERA placed him fourth, and 145 punchouts fifth. The former American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year has a four-pitch mix, which is highlighted by a fastball that sits in the upper 90s and a curveball and a splitter that generate elite whiffs. Yesavage will join a Toronto system that already has one of the best pitching prospects in the game in Ricky Tiedemann.
