Trevor Story Picks Up Two Hits, Two Steals In Walk-Off Win Over Blue Jays
1 day agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story went 2-for-5 with two singles, an RBI and two stolen bases in the team's 4-3 walk-off win against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday at Fenway Park, but it was his squibber off the end of the bat to second base with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning that ended up being the difference. Toronto second baseman Andres Gimenez bobbled the exchange to get the force out at home plate, allowing the winning run to score for the Red Sox. The 32-year-old Story is now hitting .264 on the season with a below-average .687 OPS in 14 games played, but he has turned it around since picking up only two hits in his first 15 at-bats. The two-time All-Star is trying to fend off shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer this year and hasn't played in over 100 games since 2021 due to injuries. Story's high strikeout rate will continue to be a problem if he can stay healthy.
