Trevor Rosenthal Battles Groin Strain During Camp
4 years agoOakland Athletics right-handed pitcher Trevor Rosenthal (groin) has yet to appear in a Cactus League game during 2021 and it was announced Monday that it's been due to a groin strain. Manager Bob Melvin noted that the team will ease Rosenthal back into the mix, but the hope is that the ailment is minor. Rosenthal signed a one-year deal in February with the expectation that he would take over closer duties for Liam Hendriks, who departed for the White Sox earlier in the off-season. Rosenthal looked to have reacquired his former All-Star form down the stretch in 2020, amassing a 1.90 ERA and a career-best 14.5 K/9 IP. There's no indication that he won't be set for April 1 at this stage, but Jake Diekman, Lou Trivino or Sergio Romo could all potentially vulture saves if Rosenthal begins the year on the injured list.
