Trevor Rogers Falls An Out Shy Of Another Quality Start
3 years agoMiami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Trevor Rogers fell one out shy of earning a quality start and ended up taking a loss in Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Rogers threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on just two hits while striking out nine, but issuing four walks and hitting a batter. Rogers threw 99 pitches, 64 for strikes. He probably could have gotten the last out of the sixth inning to make it a quality start, but as usual, Marlins manager Don Mattingly just kind of does things with no explanation. Rogers is the statistical front runner to be Rookie of the Month for June, which would give him the award three months in a row. He'll take a 7-5 record and a 2.14 ERA into his next start.
