Trent Thornton Solid In Relief, Eyed For High-Leverage Work
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays reliever Trent Thornton pitched 1 2/3 innings of shutout baseball during the club's 3-2 loss in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Kansas City Royals. The right-hander allowed two hits but he struck out two batters and threw 17 of his 25 pitches for strikes (68%). After the game, manager Charlie Montoyo said he has been impressed with Thornton this season and will be using the former starter in high-leverage situations moving forward. The club is currently without other high-leverage relievers Jordan Romano (ulnar neuritis) and Julian Merryweather (oblique) due to injuries.
