Travis Bazzana Signs Rookie Deal
4 months agoThe top overall pick in this year's MLB draft, second baseman Travis Bazzana from Oregon State, signed with the Cleveland Guardians on Friday for $8.950 million, which is well under the assigned $10.57 million slot value for the No. 1 overall pick. Bazzana was the best pure hitter in this year's draft class and hit .407/.568/.911 in his final collegiate season for the Beavers in 2024 and finished second in Division 1 in on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS while also setting an Oregon State record with 28 home runs. The 21-year-old Australian infielder bats from the left side and should be able to move quickly through Cleveland's minor-league system. It's not out of the question that he's considered for a major-league call-up in the second half of the 2025 season if he dominates minor-league pitching.
