After a huge weigh-in miss by main-eventer Khamzat Chimaev, Tony Ferguson was bumped to the main-event slot at UFC 279 to face Nate Diaz in his farewell bout on Saturday. Entering the contest on a four-fight losing streak, Ferguson was in dire need of a big win while moving up in weight, especially after being placed against an opponent like Li Jingliang. After a late shuffle at the top of the card, Ferguson was set to face the dangerous jiu-jitsu ace in Diaz. In 17:52 of action before being caught in a fight-ending guillotine choke, Ferguson tallied 80 significant strikes, 21 less than Diaz. The move up in weight is still probably the best avenue for Ferguson, but a step down in competition is what he really needs for a victory.--Matt Bricker

Tony Ferguson (25-10) moves back up to welterweight to face Michael Chiesa at UFC Abu Dhabi on Saturday. Ferguson is coming off a decision loss to Paddy Pimblett back in March which was his seventh-straight defeat. No fighter in UFC history has lost eight straight fights, so Ferguson is looking to avoid that. However, Ferguson is the biggest underdog on the card as DraftKings has him at a salary of $6,700. Before the seven-fight losing streak, Ferguson was on a 12-fight winning streak. He's 15-8 in the UFC with 11 wins by stoppage. UFC CEO Dana White has said win or lose he wants this to be Ferguson's last fight.--Cole Shelton

Tony Ferguson suffered his seventh straight defeat as he dropped a one-sided decision to Paddy Pimblett on Saturday at UFC 296. Ferguson was dropped in the first round and was outstruck 76-to-31 in the first round, as 'El Cucuy' nearly got finished. The second round was much of the same, but as Pimblett started to gas, Ferguson did outstrike Pimblett 41-to-29 in the third round but was controlled for over three minutes in the final frame. Ferguson ended up losing every round on all three judges' scorecards to lose his seventh straight defeat. Whether or not he will get another fight in the UFC is to be seen.--Cole Shelton

Tony Ferguson (25-9) is on a six-fight losing streak with his last win coming in June of 2019. Ferguson is coming off a submission loss to Bobby Green back in July in his first fight of the year. Heading into Ferguson's UFC 296 fight against Paddy Pimblett, 'El Cucuy' is a sizeable underdog as DraftKings has him at a salary of $6,800 which is the second-lowest on the card. Ferguson is averaging 72.31 fantasy points per fight, but has been finished five times on the losing streak.--Cole Shelton

Tony Ferguson continued his disappointing decent in the lightweight division after suffering a submission loss with just seconds to go on Saturday. The loss gives Ferguson his sixth straight, making him winless since June of 2019. Despite the late finish, Ferguson was down on all scorecards due to the dominant all-around performance of Bobby Green. In 14:54 of action, Ferguson only landed 54 significant strikes compared to that of the 137 of Green. Though no one can tell a fighter when to retire, it looks like this might be the perfect time for Ferguson to hang it up and move on with other endeavors in life.--Matt Bricker
