Tomoyuki Sugano Absent Due To Visa Issues
1 min agoBaltimoreBaseball.com's Rich Dubroff reports that Baltimore Orioles right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano has been delayed to camp due to visa issues, but he should join the team sometime this weekend. Sugano will make his MLB debut in 2025 after the Orioles signed the Japanese hurler to a one-year, $13 million contract in December. The 35-year-old veteran doesn't come with as much fanfare as Dodgers rookie Roki Sasaki, but he should nevertheless begin the year in Baltimore's starting rotation. Sugano features a diverse arsenal of six pitches and has pinpoint control, but he's near the end of his career at this point and had a weak 18.3 percent strikeout rate with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. He's going to have to rely on generating a lot of weak contact to succeed in the U.S. this year. RotoBaller has Sugano ranked just inside the top-100 starting pitchers.
