Tomas Plekanec Returns To Montreal On One-Year Deal
6 years agoThe Montreal Canadiens announced they are bringing back 35-year-old center Tomas Plekanec on a one-year deal. Plekanec was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the deadline last season and scored two of his 26 points in 17 games with the Buds. Aside from those 17 games, Plekanec has played his entire 998-game NHL career with Montreal and made it a priority to return. After trading Alex Galchenyuk to Arizona, Plekanec stands a real chance of slotting into the Canadiens second-line center role. His production has seen a steep decline in the last two years following consecutive 50-plus point seasons in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Plekanec can still reasonably score 10 goals and 40 points this season and has middling fantasy value, likely as a streaming option.
