Tom Wilson Suspended For 20 Games
7 years agoWashington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been suspended for 20 games after an illegal check to the head to St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist. Wilson was already on thin ice after some questionable plays in the playoffs and last season. While the hit itself wasn't his worst for sure, and most likely would've been a one or two game suspension for a first-time offender, this was the result of numerous risky, dangerous plays by Wilson and the league wanted to make sure Wilson knew. The newly signed forward with the Capitals will forfeit $1,260,162.20 in salary. Wilson had the potential to be a huge penalty minute and hits contributor along with scoring over 40 points, but now, those ambitions are likely over as him being suspended for 20 games is too long to hold a dead roster spot. He was slated to start on the first line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov, and most likely will fall back into that position upon return. He's droppable in all formats and should be picked up once again in banger formats once the suspension is nearly over.

Tom Wilson Expected To Return On Saturday
1 month agoWashington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson (illness) is expected to return on Saturday when the Capitals face the Tampa Bay Lightning. Wilson was unable to suit up in their previous contest on Thursday evening with an illness. However, the 30-year-old was able to log a successful practice session on Friday, suggesting he is past this illness. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status in case he faces a setback. Over his previous eight contests, Wilson has found the back of the net six times and added four helpers. During this stretch, he has held a +4 rating with 17 shots on goal, 22 hits, and three blocked shots. Fantasy managers should expect Wilson to return to his typical spot on the second line alongside Pierre-Luc Dubois and Connor McMichael.

Tom Wilson Could Miss Sunday's Contest
1 month agoWashington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson (undisclosed) will be evaluated before Sunday's contest against the Edmonton Oilers and could sit out. Wilson logged just over 12 minutes of ice time during their 8-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon. Despite the limited playing time, the 30-year-old made an impact as he found the back of the net, logged four hits and one block, and held a +3 rating. If Wilson were to sit out on Sunday, Jakub Vrana would likely enter the starting lineup. Over his previous six games, Wilson has enjoyed an offensive surge as he has found the back of the net five times and added three helpers. During this stretch, he has logged 16 hits and three blocks. Vrana would likely have a bottom-six role if he draws into the starting lineup.

Tom Wilson Misses Monday's Practice
4 months agoWashington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson (face) missed Monday's practice. The power forward took a shot to the face from a teammate in Saturday's 4-2 win over Montreal and is undergoing further evaluations. Despite getting hurt early into Saturday's game, Wilson produced a big performance with two goals. He's notched 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in 27 games across the campaign and once again leads the Capitals with 80 hits. Washington won't return to action until Thursday, giving Wilson extra time to recover. He's in danger of missing his first game of the season. Andrew Mangiapane might get a chance to work in a top-six role if Wilson isn't available on Thursday.

Tom Wilson Notches Two Points In Tuesday's Loss
12 months agoWashington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson recorded a goal and an assist as the team went down 4-3 to the Rangers in Game 2 on Tuesday. He picked up a power-play assist when Dylan Strome scored early in the second period and netted a goal with the man advantage himself in the middle of the third frame. The Capitals now find themselves down 2-0 in the series, but Wilson can be happy with his contributions. He's the only player on the team with multiple points in the series, having tallied one goal and two assists.
