5 years agoTennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has put himself in position for a possible franchise tag in 2020, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. Tannehill has been excellent under center since replacing Marcus Mariota, leading the team to a 4-1 record and putting them in a position to win their division. Tennessee is averaging 50 more passing yards per game and 44 more rushing yards since Tannehill took over. He's making a base salary of $7 million this year, but neither sides have discussed a new contract yet. The franchise tag for QBs projects to be just under $27 million next year. While Tannehill has been solid for the Titans since replacing Mariota, he's still more of a QB2 in fantasy on a run-first squad.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

6 months agoThe Green Bay Packers have reached out to free-agent quarterback Ryan Tannehill, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. Tannehill has expressed interest in signing with an NFL team, but only if it's the right situation. Specifically, he's looking to play for a contender with strong offensive-line play and talented weapons. Green Bay represents a fit, not just because it meets those specifications, but also because the Packers recently learned that Jordan Love (knee) will miss several weeks with an MCL sprain. Without Love, the Packers' current quarterback room consists of Malik Willis and Sean Clifford. Tannehill could be an upgrade over those two players, though even if he does sign, he might require a little extra time to ramp up to an NFL-caliber quality of play.--Andersen Pickard - RotoBaller

6 months agoFree agent quarterback Ryan Tannehill is waiting for the perfect opportunity before signing with an NFL team, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. His ideal landing spot would be a playoff contender with a strong offensive line, significant offensive weapons, and the need for a quarterback. He has reportedly been staying in shape and throwing to local receivers, keeping himself ready in case he gets the call. Rapoport notes that there's been some interest in Tannehill around the league, but evidently, his desired opportunity hasn't presented itself yet. One team to keep an eye on is the Green Bay Packers, who are contenders but are also preparing for a multi-week absence from Jordan Love (knee).--Andersen Pickard - RotoBaller

8 months agoFree-agent quarterback Ryan Tannehill is enjoying life with his family while acknowledging he's received offers from clubs around the National Football League. While that doesn't mean he's not interested in returning to the NFL, he's also waiting for the right situation before contemplating a comeback. "It's a weird feeling, right? Just because I've done it so long and loved every step of the way," said Tannehill during an interview. "But my son's birthday is tomorrow. I'm just going to get to celebrate my son's birthday fully and not be in training camp, so I'm really excited for that. But yeah, it's a weird feeling. I'm staying in shape and staying ready if the right thing pops up and comes available. But also at the same time, really enjoying where I'm at and the time with the family." The veteran signal-caller has played for the Dolphins and Titans since entering the league in 2012. In 155 games, he's thrown for 34,881 yards, 216 touchdowns, and 115 interceptions, adding 2,103 yards and 27 scores off 440 carries. With that said, teams will need a quarterback at some point during the 2024-25 campaign, meaning fantasy managers should continue to monitor Tannehill's plans throughout the season. This is even more true for those participating in multi-quarterback formats.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller

1 year agoESPN's Brooke Pryor suggests that the Pittsburgh Steelers could opt to bring in Tennessee Titans impending free-agent quarterback Ryan Tannehill as a short-term fix at the position if they want to give Kenny Pickett more time to develop in 2024. It makes some sense given Tannehill's success in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's system in Tennessee -- Tannehill earned his lone Pro Bowl nod in 2019 with Smith running the offense. However, Tannehill is now 35 years old and wouldn't have the type of aerial weapons that he did when he had a career-best season in Tennessee. Pittsburgh has also expressed interest in re-signing Mason Rudolph, who was more efficient after taking over for Pickett while leading the team to a playoff berth.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
