1 year agoFree-agent left-handed reliever Tim Hill and the Chicago White Sox agreed to a one-year, $1.8 million deal on Thursday, according to sources. Hill, 33, became a free agent when he was non-tendered by the San Diego Padres this winter. He'll join a White Sox bullpen where he should see plenty of innings and high-leverage opportunities, which could make him attractive in deep holds leagues in 2024. The side-arming southpaw had a career-worst 5.48 ERA (5.49 FIP) and 1.65 WHIP while walking 14 and striking out 26 in 44 1/3 relief innings for the Friars in his fourth year with the team in 2023. Hill probably isn't going to be very fantasy relevant next year unless he's in the mix for saves and until he can start missing more bats. As of right now, Gregory Santos and Garrett Crochet are the best bets in Chicago for most of the saves.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 months agoAccording to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated, free-agent pitcher Tim Hill has continued to draw interest from the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Rockies, and Angels. Ragazzo noted there is mutual interest in a potential reunion with the Yankees. Last season, Hill opened the campaign with the White Sox and posted a 5.87 ERA and a 2.22 WHIP across 23 innings of work. However, once he was shipped to the Bronx in the back half of the season, Hill held a strong 2.05 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP across 44 innings of work. In the playoffs, Hill tossed 8 2/3 innings of one-run ball. Despite only generating a poor 10.1% strikeout rate, Hill posted an elite 68.1% ground-ball rate, which helped offset his poor whiff rate. Fantasy managers should expect Hill to operate as a high-leverage option during the 2025 season.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoAccording to Tim Healey of Newsday, the New York Mets are interested in left-handed free-agent pitcher Tim Hill. Hill opened the 2024 season with the White Sox and was eventually shipped to the Bronx. While he held a 5.87 ERA and a 2.22 WHIP across 23 innings on the Southside, he turned the corner with the Yankees as he posted a strong 2.05 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP through 44 innings of work. He was also sharp in the postseason, holding a strong 1.08 ERA. Under the hood, the 34-year-old generated a stellar 1.7% barrel rate and 68.1% ground-ball rate, which were both the highest marks among qualified pitchers last season. Hill would be a nice addition to the Mets bullpen, as they currently have just two southpaws on their depth chart.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

4 months agoAccording to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees are looking to add left-handed pitchers to their bullpen and have been linked to Tim Hill, among others. Hill finished the 2024 campaign in the Bronx after starting the season with the Chicago White Sox. Across 67 innings of relief last summer, the southpaw held a 3.36 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. However, he was very effective across his 44-inning stint in the Bronx, where he posted a 2.05 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. The 34-year-old has struggled to generate strikeouts and posted a poor 12.9% strikeout rate and 10.7% walk rate over the past two summers. However, he generated a 1.7% barrel rate and a 68.1% ground-ball rate, which placed him in the 100th percentile in both statistics last season. If Hill were to reunite with the Yankees, he would likely operate as a middle-relief option and see minimal save situations, if any at all.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
