Tigers Officially Hire A.J. Hinch
4 years agoThe Detroit Tigers officially hired former Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch as their new manager on Friday. Hinch was a backup catcher for the 2003 Tigers. The hiring comes one year after he was fired by Houston for his part in the sign-stealing scandal, and he was suspended for all of the 2020 season. Hinch will replace Ron Gardenhire, who retired last month just before the end of the regular season. He has plenty of ties to Detroit's front office from his playing days and scouting days with the Padres. Hinch finished with a 481-329 record in five seasons as the Astros skipper and won 101-plus games in each of his last three seasons there. He'll help manager a young Tigers squad, headlined by starter Casey Mize. Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene were at the team's alternate site this year and may not be far behind.
